Dear Daughter in Diaspora

"Black Environmental Thought Conference"  - oh my goodness, looks like we have a Van Jones, cool-aide drinking, American Communist Dreamer in the family now.  The conference purpose is to invite "outdoor enthusiasts across the African diaspora to engage in translocal and transnational dialogues about environmental justice and to develop an emergency theory of change".  Strange how I never realized that my daughter was a member of the African diaspora.  But I guess it is time for a new theory of change since the one we tried four years ago didn't work out so great. Sounds like the real goal of this conference is to implant a microchip in your brain that constantly repeats the following messages: "Plant collard greens, Vote for Obama, Russia is greatest country, comrades".

Utopia

Man has always tried to create a heaven here on Earth.   The first settlers in Jamestown and Roanoke, Virginia came for that express purpose to create a special Utopian society.   Karl Marks tried to devise the perfect society where everyone would be equal with "to each according to his needs, from each according to his means".   But each has failed completely over the years and for the same reasons.   Those reasons are that 1)The Earth is not heaven and it never will be.   As Jesus says in the bible, "My kingdom is not of this world"   2) That men are imperfect beings with unequal talents and abilities. Some people are lazy and some are industrious some are good and some are evil.  Even the bible says that "the poor you will always have with you".   Those who try to create the perfect society are really trying to create their own heaven here on Earth, because they really don't believe in God or eternity.   They think either that God doesn't really exist
or that they are actually descendants of Gods themselves as did the Aryans or Nazis.   And if you believe that there is no God and that there is nothing left after you die then the next best thing to do is to try and change the world and make it your heaven so you can live forever.   The Chinese communists under Mao tried to purge the world of all undesirable rich and educated people so the masses could create the perfect society and thus began the great leap forward where millions were killed.   The Nazis wanted to create the master race for a perfect world by killing all Semites and creating a world of only perfect Aryans because only the Aryans were, as they believed, descendants of the alien gods that created Atlantis.    Beware of social justice that requires the "elimination" of all rich people and "unenlightened" old people.   This world is just a temporary passing test, pick up your cross daily and follow the will of God, not the rantings of
anyone who says they are going to save the world.  Do good and do not become attached to material possessions.  But remember that since this world is just a test, then strive to do what is good and right with everyone you meet. Those who talk about preserving the world but sow hatred and envy of others are evil.  For as the Bible says, you will know the tree by it's fruit.  A good tree cannot produce bad fruit and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit.  The end "Never" justifies the means to the end.  Marks thought that revolution and mass murder were not only justified but necessary to achieve the desired end, "a perfect society".   And over the years millions and millions of people have been "killed" in the name of "social revolution".   Do not be fooled and participate in it.

Simple Math: "Have" vs "Make"

The president has been calling for people who "make" over 1 million dollars a year to pay at least 30% of their income in taxes to help pay their fair share.   Well it turns out that the majority of people who "have" (not make) over 1 million dollars are currently retired and have the money in retirement accounts that represent a lifetime of savings and therefore don't fall under the income tax rate of 35% for people making over 1 million dollars but under the dividend tax rate of around 15%.  According to the last census, there are 3 million people in the U.S. who "have" 1 million or more in savings accounts or stock mutual funds etc.  3 million vs 300 million U.S. population gives us the occupiers "evil 1%".  But of those 3 million people only  235,000 actually "make" or earn 1 million or more each year.   These people are currently subject to a 35% top tax bracket.   So this is already 5% more than Obama's campaign rhetoric.  Unless the Bush tax cuts are reinstated for 2013 the top rate will rise from 35% to 40%
But lets say for argument that we take an additional 1 million dollars more per year in taxes from each of these people.   That would give us 235 billion a year in new tax revenue assuming that these people would actually sit back and let the government take another million without deciding to move to Costa Rica or to move the money to offshore businesses to avoid those taxes.   The current U.S. national debt has been growing an average of 115 billion dollars per month over the last two years.   So this new  tax would only cover 2 month's of our federal budget shortfall and still leave us with a national annual debt growing at 1.1 trillion dollars a year.    But if your goal is to demonize the wealthy and  create a red herring issue to motivate the poor to vote for you while ignoring your economic record then it is a great idea. ---- Mike Bair 4/12/12
